Emotes while talking
As you me may have noticed, NPCs talking and characters during cinematics, perform certain 'talking' emotes.
But player cannot use such emotes on purpose, even if the models have them.
When talking in outposts, characters look like dummies if they only talk.
I suggest that while taking standing still, (not sitting or moving) character randomly perform the 'talking' emotes.
I bet it's not hard to do, and would remove a bit of the 'dummy storage' feeling.
Such emote could be performed too when characters talk to NPCs,for example, when accepting or refusing quests, or when choosing options in dialogs.

In Warcraft3 units that haven't been moved for some time start doing emotes too, so this sounds like a very nice idea.
But why not extend it to afk/"not moving"-emotes.
They could start eating fingernails, whisteling, comb their hair, clean their helmets etc
That would be fun^^

A flurry of movement in towns, it'll make it seem truly alive!
Although maybe it should just be when you talk on local chat? I mean whisper, nobody needs to know you're whispering. Guild, nobody you're talking to will actually see you. Local and trade only, maybe even just local.

Ah, I almost forgot, It won't just any emote, only those 'talking' you may see when there are floating window dialogs or NPC chat dialogs.
In one of them, the character rises the left hand, in other the right hand, and some of them feature just head nods.
And of course, not all chat inputs would make the character make them, just some of them.
For example, three characters are talking about an ongoing event. Instead of just 3 idle characters (maybe one of them moving to face the others, some people like to do so), characters talking would sometimes nod or gesture with their hands. And spamming won't make the character make more gestures. It could be limited by one gesture ever 5 or 10 seconds, no matter how many inputs you make.
And, of course, it would be only in local channel. Nobody would notice you are whispering or talking to your party that way.
I don't know for trade. It would be fun seen characters making the 'pickme' emote while announcing trades, but we already have a '/pickme' emote. While we don't have '/talk', '/nod' or '/explain' emotes.
That's what I meant.

Yeah, and /agree when accepting trades or party invitations, or when hitting the V buttons in conversations... but that would be too deep for now, just a bit more lively conversations would do for me.
Of course, the automated emotes would not appear as '[x] Emote' chat lines.
Only input emotes would.

There is a similar system in wow, like if you type 'lol' your character laughs etc... and it still appears in the chat. Does make conversation more interesting.
I would be all for an integrated chat/emote system in guild wars.

yeah something like this would rock, especially with /pickme. I have to say though the "talk" emote that you see NPCs do, does suck bigtime

Well, it's not the best of the emotes, but at least you know he's talking when they perform them.
